External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar expressed deep sorrow over the tragic stampede at the Tirupati temple in Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday evening. Sharing his condolences on social media platform X, Jaishankar wrote: “Saddened by the unfortunate stampede at Tirupati Temple. Heartfelt condolences to the families who lost dear ones. Pray for the speedy recovery of the injured.”
The stampede, which occurred near Vishnu Niwasam at the Tirumala Srivari Vaikuntha Dwara ticketing counter during the distribution of ‘darshan’ tokens, resulted in the death of six people and left several others injured, according to officials.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu expressed his profound shock over the incident. In a statement released by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), Naidu described the tragedy as deeply disturbing and conveyed his condolences to the families of the deceased.
CM Naidu has been in regular contact with district officials and representatives of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) to monitor the situation. He directed higher officials to visit the site and ensure that the injured receive proper medical care.
“CM Chandrababu Naidu has expressed deep distress over the loss of lives in the Tirupati stampede. He is continuously reviewing the relief measures and has instructed officials to take all necessary steps to support the affected families and ensure better treatment for the injured.”
Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, also expressed his condolences and called for support for the victims.
“The tragic stampede in Tirupati is deeply saddening. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. Wishing a swift recovery to all those injured. I urge Congress leaders and workers to provide all possible assistance during this difficult time.”
As investigations continue, authorities are focusing on providing relief to the victims and their families while ensuring such incidents are avoided in the future. The Tirupati tragedy has cast a shadow over the temple town, with leaders from across the political spectrum expressing solidarity with the affected families.
